The Girls of MMA

August 19, 2008 at 7:23 pm (Uncategorized)

Another one of my highlights that will likely be ignored haha! I know the market for women’s MMA is pretty limited, but I’m a fan and I like to make highlights that celebrate fighters who aren’t as well known and such. I’m not an expert on the state of female MMA, so my knowledge is pretty limited – as are the videos available on the net in good quality. I just wanted to try some new things, use this song and have some fun after spending so much time on The Mixed Martial Arts. Hopefully you guys dig it!

The Mixed Martial Arts

August 6, 2008 at 6:15 pm (Uncategorized)

A video showing the progression of this sport, starting with Bruce Lee and the movie inspirations of what martial arts are – then through the early days of the UFC until our current athletes. The whole video was done in Adobe After Effects then pieced together in Sony Vegas. This was my first video where every frame was ran through After Effects. Probably my favorite video right this second and I entered it into the Punch Drunk Gamer HL competition – though I’m not expecting to win; too many great videos!

Smokin’ Joe Villasenor

August 6, 2008 at 6:12 pm (Uncategorized)

Another highlight for a fighter I really like and respect. Villasenor is making waves now with EliteXC, but he has been around for a while. A great and exciting fighter, Joe lays it down every time. I sent the highlight to him over myspace and he actually put it up in his profile! A very cool guy and I think this highlight turned out very cool. My first time playing around with the whole “black and white except for one color” effect.

What it Takes

August 6, 2008 at 6:09 pm (Uncategorized)

This video I almost gave up on it. When I posted the link up at sherdog I got no responses, then in the highlight topic it seemed to get nothing nice said about it. The music used is a little different than most highlights, but I went with what I felt was right for the vibe. Thanks to the people over at mmaplayground and machinemen (who posts all of my highlights on his spanish only forums) I found that there were others who enjoyed it as well – and views-wise it has turned into one of my most popular surprisingly. I am now not ashamed to say I am proud of this video, haha!

Mayhem: Join My Cult

August 6, 2008 at 6:06 pm (Uncategorized)

Mayhem is pretty much everyone’s hero right? If not, you’re looking in all the wrong places. Mayhem is indeed where it’s at. I made all the cool little intro stuff with After Effects, then compiled all the footage in Sony Vegas as per usual. I sent the video to Jason over myspace after I finished it and he really liked it. Made all the work worth it!

The Birth of A Sport

August 6, 2008 at 6:03 pm (Uncategorized)

After my Sakuraba highlight actually turned out to be such a hit, I thought I would keep in the oldschool realm of things.  I have always wanted to do a highlight that really encompasses the progression this sport has made from its inception and this video started off as that. However, once I got started I found Royce Gracie becoming the center of attention more and more. So that’s how it ended up really. I really love the pace of this one, and it was also my first real attempt at creating special FX in Adobe After Effects.

Sakuraba: In One Night

May 10, 2008 at 11:35 pm (Uncategorized)

It was only a matter of time before I made a Highlight of the amazing Kazushi Sakuraba really. Very few in MMA have been in as epic of battles as he has, nor been in as dramatic of wars. This highlight really only needed musical accompaniment to make it a “highlight”, as it has all the dramatic makings of a very nice short film. Posted on bloodyelbow and, this has been my most instantly “popular” highlight – though I don’t think I’ll consider any of my highlights until I’m seeing 20,000 views or something like that. Haha. Anyway, hope everyone enjoys, it was a lot of fun to make and went very smooth. Something I appreciated coming off of my two biggest projects in Mark Hunt: Unbreakable and Anderson Silva – Caught in the Web.

Anderson Silva – Caught in the Web

April 19, 2008 at 7:09 pm (Uncategorized)

So my cousin tells me one day, “hey man, when are you going to make a Anderson Silva HL so I can put it on myspace?” so I immediately started gathering footage. In the midst of all this I found that was going to be having a HL contest where the person with the most votes ended up winning a bunch of DVDs or something. So I pressed to finish this one before the time limit ran out for the contest. Unfortunately my video didn’t make it to the finals but I personally think it was good enough to rank right up there with at least two of the videos they ended up picking. Mine might even be better, haha! Anyway, was a bit bummed, but oh well. As long as the videos are seen, that is all that matters to me. About the video itself, this was my first HL that I worked with After Effects on which is how I created all of the more complex special FX. Something I have seen in few highlights out there, also the comic book section was created in photoshop of course. So without further griping and whining, here is Anderson Silva – Caught in the Web.

Music Used:

PrideFC Theme Acoustic Version
Lupe Fiasco – Little Weapon
The Pillows – Revers Edge
Rich Boy – Get This Money (instrumental)
Lil Wayne – Single Again Remix (instrumental)
Young Dro – Sick of it (instrumental)
Joe Hisaishi – Summer (Kikujiro Soundtrack)

Mark Hunt: Unbreakable

March 20, 2008 at 1:09 am (Uncategorized)

Mark Hunt is an exciting and completely underrated fighter who deserves so much more credit than I think he does. Sure, he hasn’t earned all of his stripes in the world of Jiu-Jitsu, but who has submitted him? Fedor, Barnett and Yoshida? Hardly fighters to be ashamed of being submitted by, as they are some of the best. I believe in Mark Hunt and believe he could be in the upper half of the top ten at heavyweight in the next year or two to come depending on who he fights.

Before making this video I watched Mick Bianchi’s Mark Hunt HL 2 many times for inspiration, and you may catch a bit of a reference at the beginning with all of the photos and such. Was inspired by his awesome use of stills in that highlight. Definitely reccomend everyone search that video out! You can check it: Here. Definitely check it out, one of my favorites.

Rich Clementi: No Love

March 13, 2008 at 4:15 pm (Uncategorized)

As a kid from Louisiana, who has worked in Slidell many years, you can’t help but feel some hometown pride when you see someone from your area go out and be successful. Having met Rich, knowing he’s a nice guy as well helps. I made this highlight from a few clips to show some love for the guy and represent Louisiana.
